Sunday Musings Good Or Perfect Ai

Happy Sunday Friend!

Welcome back to another musing! I’m glad you’re here. Here are your Sunday Musings, a quick dose of what I’m exploring and thinking about. If you find it useful, please feel free to forward this along to friends!

Quote I’m Musing

“Don't let perfection become the enemy of good.”

-Voltaire

We're done with development and releasing our first app. During review after review, I came to realize that sussing out every potential flaw, every possible use friction point is a never-ending task. Also, there are very few of us reviewing compared to the potential millions (hopefully) that will be using it. Collectively we agreed that the app has more than met our initial release criteria, and the initial feedback from our first set of users will provide exponentially more value and value for time than our putting off release.

In everything we do, there's a threshold where we've reached the point where trying to make it perfect will actually make things worse. The key is to identify what our good criteria is and push for release with the knowledge that perfection is a journey, not a starting point.

How do you measure this in your iterations?

The Next Big Disruption with AI?

Personal Assistants/Executive Assistants provide a ton of value to streamlining your day. They know more than you do about your schedule and usually have this 6th sense on what you need and when (because they run your calendar).

That’s where I think AI is headed. While many think search-like products like ChatGPT in Bing and Google’s Bard are the big disruption, I think it will be Digital personal and Executive Assistants powered by LLMs. So does Daniel Miessler.

Think about having a Digital Assistant that can:

  • Know when you’ll be sad (anniversary of a death, or divorce)

  • Know that you’re getting hangry and arrange some food

  • Help you build a tailored workout or study routine based on your habits and personality

  • Function like a therapist if you’re wondering why you’re low on energy and feeling angry

  • Be your life coach when you’re not accomplishing your goals

  • Order your favorite food at a restaurant via an API so it’s ready when you walk in

  • Play the perfect song

It will be like having an oracle. Not really magic, but the LLM side of the DA will have access to the entire human repository of knowledge. The Assistant side of the DA will have context to apply based on your background and history of interaction.

Obviously, this is aspirational and will have serious implications for ensuring privacy, but I think the benefits will outweigh the potential downsides.

Companies like Facebook and Amazon already have ridiculous amounts of personal and private information on us. Why not build something that helps us out while selling us out at least?

I, for one, would like to welcome our robot overlords.

Interesting and In the News

Tree of Though Prompting for AI

Cornell University’s arXIVLabs released a new paper about an improved method for prompting that outperforms all previous methods. This works by exploring multiple options through multiple steps, but, uniquely, it can go backward and try a previous path if the current path results in a dead-end. In other words, it can explore multiple echelons, down multiple options, and find the best outcome. It has a Github repo that gives examples! Super powerful. I'll can’t wait to try this out!

Andrew Ng’s New AI Short Courses

Andrew Ng has been a pioneer in teaching AI/ML. I love his courses and can’t recommend them enough (I’m not sponsored). Great short courses to bone up, and you can look at his previous courses as well.

PCI DSS Compliance

Securing PCI DSS Compliance is crucial for healthcare organizations and organizations working with their data, especially for executive board members who may not be well-versed in its intricacies. It is a set of standards designed to protect sensitive patient data and maintain the trust of our patients. By implementing the necessary security measures such as fortified network infrastructure, encryption, access controls, monitoring, and staff training, we can greatly reduce the risk of data breaches and financial fraud.

Complying with PCI DSS not only helps us meet regulatory requirements but also demonstrates our unwavering commitment to safeguarding patient information. It is essential that we prioritize the security of patient data to protect patient privacy, preserve our reputation, and contribute to a safer digital healthcare ecosystem.

In essence, adhering to PCI DSS guidelines will provide us with a solid framework to ensure the protection of patient data, which is vital for our organization's success and the trust our patients place in us.
